Immaculate Conception School Statement on Immigration Enforcement

Dear ICS Families,

At Immaculate Conception School, we are committed to ensuring that all students feel safe, supported, and protected within our school community. We want to provide you with important information about how we will respond in the event that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or any other immigration authorities approach our school.

School Policy on ICE and Immigration Authorities

1. ICE is not permitted inside our building – including public spaces – without the express permission of the Principal, Mr. Johnson, or the Principal’s designee, Ms. Nedwell.

2. If ICE officials arrive at ICS, staff will immediately notify school leadership. ICE will not be permitted to enter the school or interact with students without a legally valid judicial warrant (signed by a judge).

3. We will not share student information with immigration authorities unless legally required to do so. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) protects students’ personal records, including immigration status, from being disclosed without proper authorization.

4. Students will not be removed from our care by ICE unless school leadership has verified that ICE has legal authority to do so.

5. If a student is at risk, we will immediately contact their parent or guardian to provide support and guidance.

Know Your Rights

Families should be aware of their rights if they ever encounter ICE. The following are key protections you and your loved ones have under the law:

• You do not have to open your door if ICE comes to your home. Ask them to slide any documents under the door.

• You have the right to remain silent. You do not have to answer questions about your immigration status.

• You have the right to speak to a lawyer. Do not sign anything without legal counsel.

• If ICE does not have a judicial warrant, they cannot enter private spaces.

• If you are detained, you have the right to make a phone call to your family, lawyer, or community support.
